Course Title: ZOOLOGY

Course Description

We heard about this already in our biology classes back in high school. Simply put, Zoology is the scientific study of animals. A professional in the field is referred to as a Zoologist. What else do you need to know? Why not keep on scalping through so you'll get the necessary knowledge you need before picking Zoology as a course of choice to study in the university.

Animals are of great value to the environment, nature, and even humans specifically, a little example is the joy one gets when they play with their pets (dogs, cats, rabbits etc). The course "Zoology" is aimed at broadening ones knowledge on the anatomy of animals, their physiology, pathology, and many other processes which is associated with them.

Some sub-courses which you'll be expected to undertake may include:

  1. Animal Behavior and Physiology
  2. Parasitology
  3. Virology
  4. Ecology
  5. Chemistry

JOB OFFERS FOR A ZOOLOGIST

Few amongst the vast job opportunities available for a Zoologist include the following:

  1. Animal Technician: As an Animal technician, you'll work in animal facilities in vet colleges, laboratories, pharmaceutical companies etc. You'll be tasked to feed animals, monitor their weight gain/loss, and some other minor tasks.
  2. Nature Reserve Warden: As a nature reserve warden, you'll engage in tasks that'll help promote the achievements of Nature Reserves within companies.
  3. Environmental Scientist: The main job of Environmental Scientists is to prevent environmental hazards (e.g. pollution) from affecting humans and animals, or reduce its impact.
  4. Environmental Consultant: They simply give advices as relating to the environment, in order to drastically reduce hazardous events.
  5. Veterinary Nurse: As a veterinary nurse, you'll be involved in caring for animals in a holistic manner for healthcare companies.

Subject Combination for JAMB

Here are the courses to combine when filling this course for JAMB UTME

Biology and any two (2) of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Course Cut of Point

180 is the minimum cut off point for ZOOLOGY as specified by JAMB.

Also, the required cut-of-points for this course (ZOOLOGY) depends on the school you are applying for, basically many schools have a different minimum cut of marks for accepting students in this area, which may be higher or even lower than JAMB recommend. Also, it is important to note that your O'level result (WAEC, NECO, GCE etc) is a primary criteria for screening, continue reading to know the required subjects you must have on your O'Level result

ZOOLOGY Requirement UTME

Five (5) SSC credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology and two (2) other Science subject.

ZOOLOGY Requirements Direct Entry

Two (2) 'A' Level passes or NCE in Biology, Zoology or Botany and one other Science subject
