10 Private Schools Sealed by Lagos Govt
Lagos State Government has sealed 10 private schools for violating the closure order of schools to control the spread of the coronavirus, especially among students.
During the second and third phase of the massive monitoring of private schools compliant to the directive, this information was disclosed by The Director-general, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Lagos State, Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, who led the Monitoring and Investigation team of the office.
According to Mrs Abiola, a large number of schools within the state complied with the closure, but the others who did not comply were sealed. She added that, these schools that were sealed were actually holding lessons for their students within the school premises, she said this closure exercise would continue across all the educational districts in the state to make sure schools comply with the government to discourage the nonchalant attitudes of some schools.
The Director-general also encouraged school owners to start thinking of other opportunities like webinars and virtual training for their staff to acquire new skills. To also embrace online schooling for students so that parents won't be found guilty for putting their children in harm's way.
In a statement, Mrs Abiola said, " No doubt, COVID-19 has had a negative effect on our schools but we want students to come out stronger. We want to make sure schools are closed. We also want to make sure schools are adhering to the closure directive since the number of COVID-19 infections has increased dramatically over time. "
She encouraged parents and well as students to follow the guidelines for safety as given by the NCDC. Lastly, she said: "This is the time to think and plan strategically to form good partnerships with the government in order to get resources for your schools."
