Date For Resumption of Schools - Minister of State for Education

The Federal Government is not ready to put children at risk by opening schools. The president of Nigeria (Muhamadu buhari) made it clear that the date for schools resumption is not yet fixed regardless of complains from students who are at home and the announcement of gradual ease of lock-downs.This speech was made by the President and made known to the public by  the Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, on Tuesday in Abuja at the 21st joint national briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19.

the Federal Ministry of Education could not give any date now when schools would be resuming across the country and that students should not worry as the West African Examination council has not cancelled their examination and that students will still go back and take their examination as soon as the government is sure that students are no longer in danger of contracting the virus.

The President actually addressed the issue of the opening of the economy gradually. Until that is done, we cannot foresee or immediately tell you when all the schools will be reopened. “It will not be proper for us to simply give you a date. It has to be in tandem with these opening terms. We don’t want to put our children at risk. None of these schools can function on their own without the society.

About Those who are in exit classes in secondary schools: Their normal training and preparation continues and this will be done until they prove to be eligible for external sittings. Also for those who are in promoting classes their promotion is certain but on the condition that they have learnt everything they suppose to learn and have proven to be eligible for the next class.

Please Note:The West African Examinations Council has not cancelled their external exams. It was postponed indefinitely students will still have to go back and take their exams as soon as the Government is sure that students are no longer in danger of contacting the virus (Covid 19)
