FG Approves New Date For WAEC and Resumption
In a statement by Mr. Bem Goong, the Director of Press and information of the ministry, a go-ahead for the resumption of all secondary schools in the country has been approved by the federal government, which will commence on the 4th August, 2020. The resumption is strictly for SS3 students that will be sitting for West African Examination Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO).
According to Bem Goong, this was a joint decision reached at a virtual consultative meeting between the Federal Ministry of Education, the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Honorable Commissioners of education of the 36 states, Chief Executives of Examination bodies, and the proprietors of private schools.
It was also contained in the statement that students will have two weeks with which to prepare for the WAEC exams which will commence on the 17th of August, 2020.
Furthermore, the meeting also resolved that a passionate appeal be made to the Federal Government through the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19, and public spirited Nigerians for assistance to schools across the country to enable them hasten the preparations for safe reopening.
