Having a minimum score is not a guarantee for admission-JAMB
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reminded all the candidates who took part in the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations that there is no fixed or uniform score that guarantees their admissions into the institutions of their choice.
According to JAMB, the UTME score is not the only determinant for candidates to get placed into tertiary institutions. Post UTME, physical tests(Nigerian Defense Academy/Police Academy), qualifications screening, and other parameters have been put in place so as to ensure only qualified candidates make it across. A 'cut off' score is then selected from the combined performances from the exercises already mentioned.
Institutions in turn, are at liberty to decide their cut-off mark based on the conditions or terms approved by JAMB. Some institutions have different minimum cut-off marks for granting admissions into different programs into the schools, but some are significantly higher, compared to most.
Therefore, candidates are advised to take note of these safety measures, for even with a considerably good UTME score, they might be denied admission by the institution of their choice.
