Rhema university is a christian private univeristy founded in 2004 by the living word ministry, headed by Dr, Okorie Emmanuel who serves as chancellor of the university, its vice chancellor is prof. O.C Onwudik.

The university was licensed to operate as a private university in the year 2009 of which it admitted its very first group of students.
